CONSTRUCTION OF THE CARDIGAN

The Ivy Hooded Cardigan is worked from the top down in a classic raglan construction. You’ll begin at the neckline, then work four increase points to shape the sleeves and body simultaneously. Increases are continued evenly until the desired bust measurement is reached.

Once the yoke is complete, the sleeves are separated from the body. The lower body is worked first, followed by the hood, cardigan lining, and each sleeve, which is completed individually. The wide sleeves are finished with decreases along the edge to create a balloon effect.

The cardigan can be finished with Shell Stitch Edges or optionally left with only a single crochet edging.

MATERIALS:

  • CROCHET HOOK: 4 – 6 mm, depending on the yarn you’re using
  • YARN: Light weight (no. 3) or Medium weight (no. 4) compatible with the crochet hook
  • SCISSORS
  • TAPE MEASURE
  • STITCH MARKERS
  • TAPESTRY NEEDLE (optional for weaving in ends)

YARN RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • For the best drape and to maintain the intended look of the design, the Ivy Hooded Cardigan pattern works best with cotton or linen yarns. You can use blends (e.g. 50% cotton, 50% viscose etc.),
  • You can also use wool or acrylic yarn (or yarn blends) to make the cardigan, but keep in mind that these fibres may make it less drapey, bulkier or warmer. Always make a gauge swatch first to make sure you’re happy with the result before starting your project!
  • To make this cardigan, you can use any yarn between Light weight (no. 3) and Medium weight (no. 4) paired with a compatible crochet hook from 4 up to 6 mm.

e.g.:

  • To make an off-white sample cardigan, I’ve used 4,5 mm crochet hook and single strand of yarn: Light weight (no. 3) – DROPS Belle in shade 26 Pearl, in total I’ve used approx. 1500 m of yarn,
